Our Cultural and Ecological Programs

…..Marae Ha'a Koa is a Hawaiian Culture Center in the direct lineage of the centuries old tradition of the Waianae Wahipana (the leeway side of O'ahu). The Marae has implemented numerous educational and cultural activities to serve our youth and their families in the Waianae Wahipana.
…..Many of the activities center around the preservation and perpetuation of the rich cultural heritage of the Waianae Coast.  Interactions with kupuna(s) motivates our students and families to search for their own ohana identity as well as developing pride and honor to their community and culture.
Emphasis of the ohana system and haku, leadership training, provides the children and families with strong survival skills for daily living.  Children and their families began to see themselves as valued members of the larger ohana community and motivate each other to respect themselves, encourage each other to strengthen family relationships through Hawaiian kupuka'aina values like aloha, pono, ka'ananiau, kuleana, kahu, laulima, kuauhau, akamai, ha'aha'a, and haku.
The Wahipana visits have included Kane'ilio, Punana'ula, Lahilahi, Makaha Uka, Kaneikapualena, Makua, Ka'ena, and Pu'uloa in Waipahu.
